The conversation we often hear about young people and mental health is one of brokenness and powerlessness. It’s time for a new story around mental health, one that’s empowering, transformative, and healing.
The Erika's Lighthouse Curriculum: Depression and Suicide Awareness for High School Students is a video-based high school classroom curriculum. The curriculum is made up of a series of three 45-minute lessons that seek to open up conversations about mental health, provide students with opportunities to better understand what it’s like to have depression, and inform students of where they can get help if worried about themselves or a friend. Schools can also tailor the curriculum to their own needs and choose to teach either one, two, or three of the 45-minute lessons. Watch our 90-second teaser below!
Supports teachers in having safe and open conversations around mental health in their classroom
Features a brand new 20 minute video that:
Covers all of the key concepts related to depression and suicide awareness
Features 7 diverse young people sharing their own personal stories
Provides a starting point for further discussion and activities
What if your school is already teaching a depression and suicide awareness program? The Erika's Lighthouse Curriculum is an excellent addition to all the great work you’re already doing in your school around mental health. The Erika's Lighthouse Curriculum is very different than a textbook or a curriculum whose primary purpose is to convey basic facts and information. Our curriculum takes the content to the next level by giving students the opportunity to delve deeper into the topic with critical thinking exercises, small group work, and experiential activities. Through our video classroom students are able to hear real stories of teens who struggled with depression in high school, making it a unique approach to promoting a discussion around mental health.
We are offering this program by donation. No matter how much you donate, you'll be getting the same program as everybody else. We simply trust that people are honest with whatever they can afford. To get started, click the "Donate Now" button below.
